All students within the Health & Wellness concentration begin with a foundational course in Health & Wellness and then have the opportunity to focus their work on a field which meets their professional and personal goals. Fields chosen by recent graduates and current students include:
- Lactation consulting (please see below)
- Complementary medicine
- Mental Health Nutrition
- Personal/community/global health issues
- Holistic Health
- Health care administration
- Integrative health
- Stress management
Our students come from various backgrounds–health care, complementary health or may be new to the field. Students might use their study as preparation for doctoral study. Other students might use the degree to assist in receiving some type of external certification, such as Lactation Consulting. While the coursework is conducted entirely online, students are encouraged to apply their learning to real world experience during their Application courses.
Students who choose the Lactation Consulting field of study work with faculty of the Healthy Children Project. While some students come to this degree with a health care background, an undergraduate degree in lactation, nursing, nutrition etc is not required for admission to the Health and Wellness concentration, with Lactation Consulting as the field of study. Students may be internationally board certified lactation consultants or they may choose to use the degree (with additional topic areas included) to help acquire the requirements needed in order to sit for the international exam. Students who focus on Lactation Consulting may use this degree as a pathway to acquire the requirements needed in order to sit for the international exam through the International Board of Lactation Consultant Examiners (IBLCE). Additional topics and internship hours are added to the program for students choosing this route.
