Where we were, where we are, where we're going.

Union Institute & University in conjunction with P&G's African Ancestry Leadership Network is hosting a free round table discussion to celebrate Black History Month. Join our esteemed panelists from *12 pm-1 pm on Monday, February 20, for a meaningful conversation on the past, present, and future progress made toward a more inclusive work environment. Discuss how workplace culture has been slowly pivoting so that it doesn’t just accept white dominant norms. Learn how discrimination against non-Western and non-white professionalism standards related to dress code and speech has changed over the years, and what goals we envision for the future.

The roundtable discussion will be moderated by Angie Brown, Chief of Staff for Union Institute & University.

Lunch will be available if RSVP is received by 5pm on Friday, February 17.

Angie Brown

Angenita (Angie) Brown is an accomplished higher education leader with a strong commitment to social justice. She possesses the skills necessary to transform organizations and has extensive experience in administrative, executive, and community engagement operations. No problem is too large or complex to find a solution.

Angie has held careers in nursing and in education. Upon graduating from Spaulding University with a bachelor’s degree in nursing, she worked as a labor and delivery nurse. After going back to school to get her Master of Science in Organizational Leadership degree, Ms. Brown went into the field of education, working as the administrator in the 7th largest school district in Ohio.

Currently Chief of Staff for Union Institute & University, Angie manages the daily university system communications and government relations. She also provides oversight and coordination of key working groups focused on presidential priorities.

Irvin Carney

Mr. Carney started his career as a data analyst with dunnhumbyUSA, located in Cincinnati, OH. The Alabama native is a member of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity and the 1st Masonic District of the Most Worshipful Prince Hall Grand Lodge of Ohio.

He is a graduate of the University of Alabama with a Bachelor of Science in Management Information Systems. Mr. Carney is married to Lloydia Carney and they have two daughters.

Collin Mays

Collin Mays serves as Director of the Department of Economic Inclusion for the City of Cincinnati. With a passion for public service, Mr. Mays has spent his entire career in the public sector and truly believes in the power of giving back. He has been credited with assisting several small and minority-owned businesses with securing grants and other means of capital for operation. Additionally, Mr. Mays has been recognized for workforce development program innovation. He received his bachelor’s degree in Political Science from Western Michigan University and master’s degree in Public Administration from Oakland University.

Throughout his career, Mr. Mays has been featured in multiple publications and received various awards for his professional work. He is a 2015 Michigan Chronicle 40 under 40 and a Crain’s Detroit Business 20 in their 20’s class of 2019. Collin is an active member of ICMA (International City/County Management Association) and NFBPA (National Forum for Black Public Administrators).

As Director, Mr. Mays is responsible for administering, enforcing, and monitoring the Living Wage Program, MBE/WBE/SBE certification programs, and Local, State & Federal Prevailing Wage laws as well as community outreach.

Deborah R. Davis

As the Director of MBAC, Ms. Davis is responsible for providing strategic direction and partnership for clients and small businesses to create solutions to drive innovation, growth, and market share. A proponent of minority business advancement, she believes in nurturing the growth potential of others to create an environment receptive to innovative ideas. She is a hands-on leader, not afraid to try new ideas to achieve a solution to an overarching challenge. Her accomplishments include building strong partnerships with leading fortune 500 companies, government agencies, and community-based organizations. Ms. Davis received her master’s degree in Project Management from Keller School of Management and a master’s degree in Communication from Boston University.

Hampton Leon

Leon Hampton

Mr. Hampton is an innovative and forward-thinking corporate and business attorney, focusing his practice on business law (which includes franchising), corporate governance, mergers and acquisitions, and securities matters. His experience also includes international and domestic transactions, including providing counsel to global clients entering the U.S. market and assisting in cross-border transactions. Mr. Hampton has worked with many clients, from startups and nonprofit organizations in the earliest stages of formation to established Fortune 500 companies. His counsel for clients includes drafting, reviewing, and negotiating commercial contracts, advising on corporate governance, and leading multi-faceted deal teams. He obtained his law degree from the University of Cincinnati, College of Law, with a concentration in Business and Entrepreneurship law.

Alixandria Davis Harris

Ms. Davis Harris serves as Senior Counsel for North American Hair Care brands at Procter & Gamble in Cincinnati, Ohio. She specializes in formulating creative solutions for advertising issues. Her responsibilities include working with a wide range of multicultural and innovative brands such as My Black is Beautiful®, Pantene Gold Series®, GEMZ, Old Spice®, and Head & Shoulders®.  

In her personal time, she enjoys movies, comedy clubs, and DIY projects. She received her bachelor’s degree from The Ohio State University and her J.D. from Emory University School of Law.

 

Anthony Williams

Anthony Williams

Mr. Williams works as a researcher for the Global Material Development and Supply Organization at P&G. His expertise is in material characterization and material processing qualifications. He is proud to support P&G’s Pampers Brand.

Mr. Williams’ continued love and support of the AA community, outside and inside of his professional career, is what pushes him to be his best.
