Scholarship Benefits
- Reduces cost to $350.00 per credit hour for most undergraduate programs (excluding students majoring in Criminal Justice Management, Emergency Services Management, Early Childhood Education & Adolescent Development, and Social Work).
- Graduate students are eligible for a $100 scholarship per credit hour, with a $3,000.00 maximum limit.
- Union scholarships are limited to one university-funded scholarship per student, per degree program.
How to receive the scholarship
- Apply, accept and enroll in any undergraduate or graduate degree program at Union Institute & University.
- Continue at least half-time enrollment with a minimum of 6 credit hours per semester.
- Submit your spouse’s or parent’s proof of active duty status in the Military or National Guard/Reserves.

- Maintain satisfactory academic progress.
- Submit proof of Active Status in the military or National Guard/Reserves.
Aaron and Roslyn Wallace Scholarship Fund
This scholarship, established in honor of two doctoral alumni, is open to Union masters or doctoral students in good standing. The recipient’s area of academic focus must be in health and/or wellness.
Adult Students in Scholastic Transition Scholarship (ASIST)
The ASIST scholarship is available to adults facing economic, social, or physical challenges, who are looking to improve their situation through educational opportunities. Students first apply and compete at the local Chapter level. Chapter-level winners are submitted to the Corporate level for the opportunity to be selected for a variable number of scholarships ranging from $2,000 to $10,000.
Advocates for African Americans (A3) Grant Scholarships
The Advocates for African Americans (A3) Grant Scholarships are based on academic achievements, honors, school and community participation, career goals and a letter of recommendation. Scholarships are “awarded” regardless of race, creed, religion, gender or national origin. A panel of community judges selects the recipients. Award amounts may vary from year-to-year. Recipients are awarded from the Duke Energy A3 [Midwest] Scholarship Fund.
AfterCollege Succurro Scholarship
Enter to win this $500 scholarship by completing a free profile at AfterCollege. To qualify, you must be enrolled in an accredited, degree-seeking program with at least a 2.5 GPA. Applicants must submit a 200-word, “resume-style” personal statement highlighting their goals. The deadline to apply is Sept. 30.
Agnes Rettig Scholarship Fund
The recipient must demonstrate financial need and be within the final two terms of completing all of his or her academic requirements for graduation. The recipient must demonstrate personal initiative and creative drive as reflected in his or her academic progress.
Alumni Association Scholarship
Graduates of Union’s master’s program who enroll in a doctoral degree program will receive a $1,000 scholarship in their first semester.
Alumni Association Scholarship
Graduates of Union’s undergraduate program who enroll in a graduate degree program will receive a $1,000 scholarship in their first semester. Students must be enrolled in a minimum of six credits during the first semester to receive the scholarship.
AmeriCorps Alumni Scholarship
AmeriCorps alumni will be awarded up to $3,000 total scholarship at $750 per semester for the student’s first four semesters enrolled in an undergraduate degree program. UI&U’s generous college credit transfer policies, acceptance of AP, CLEP and DANTES test results and recognition of past training carrying the American College of Education (ACE) credit award often help our adult students move towards undergraduate degree completion at an accelerated pace.
Andre Francois Scholarship Fund
The Andre Francois Scholarship Fund is for Master of Arts students in the Clinical Mental Health Counseling program.
Bates Fund for Social Activists
The recipient must be over 30 years of age, committed to life as a change agent, and have a history and track record of effectively working toward social change. The recipient’s academic work must add to the body of knowledge about social change, document the history of a particular social movement or advance a social change goal.
Christine R. Day Scholarship Fund
This scholarship is available to applicants who demonstrate an interest in ethics and are enrolled in the Interdisciplinary Studies Ph.D. program within the Ethical and Creative Leadership concentration.
Cincinnati Business and Professional Women’s Scholarship Fund
Established in 1999 by the Cincinnati chapter of Business and Professional Women, to assist women aged 25 or older who are starting or returning to school for an associate or bachelor’s degree at an accredited regional school. It is one of the only scholarship funds for adult women. Scholarships are awarded based on academic performance and potential, financial need and the quality of the application. Applications are accepted annually March 1 – April 30.
Cincinnati Hamilton County Community Action
The Cincinnati Hamilton County Community Action scholarship reduces tuition by $100 per credit hour, up to $3000. Proof of employment is required. This scholarship is not available to students who enroll in the following degree programs: Criminal Justice Management, Emergency Services Management, Early Childhood Education & Adolescent Development, or Social Work.
City of Cincinnati Employees
Employees of the City of Cincinnati can get $100 off per credit hour, up to $3000. Proof of employment is required. This scholarship is not available to students who enroll in the following degree programs: Criminal Justice Management, Emergency Services Management, Early Childhood Education & Adolescent Development, or Social Work.
College JumpStart Scholarship Program
The College JumpStart Scholarship is open to nontraditional students and provides a $1,000 scholarship to a student “committed to using education to better [their] life and that of [their] family and/or community.” Applicants must submit a 250-word personal statement based on one of a handful of required prompts. You should be enrolled in a two- or four-year college or a vocational school, or plan to enroll in the next 12 months.
Community College Graduates from Partner Schools
All students who graduate from a community college with a partnership with Union Institute & University qualify for a $100 scholarship per credit hour, up to 30 credit hours ($3,000). This scholarship is not available to students who enroll in the following degree programs: Criminal Justice Management, Emergency Services Management, Early Childhood Education & Adolescent Development, or Social Work.
Courage To Grow Scholarship
The “Courage to Grow Scholarship” was created to help students realize their college dreams. For college students with a minimum GPA of 2.5 or better. U.S. citizens only. $500 awarded monthly.
Daniel J. Ransohoff Scholarship Fund
The Daniel J. Ransohoff Scholarship Fund is only available to doctoral students. The recipient’s academic focus must be in the social sciences.
Displacement Scholarship
For students who have been displaced due to their college or university closing. Transcripts from the college/university that has recently closed showing student was attending at the time the college closed are required. Get $100 off per credit hour, up to $3000. This scholarship is not available to students who enroll in the following degree programs: Criminal Justice Management, Emergency Services Management, Early Childhood Education & Adolescent Development, or Social Work.
Dr. Angela E. Grant Memorial Scholarship Fund
In memory of Dr. Angela E. Grant, this scholarship seeks to recognize future scholars who have also been affected by cancer and who are dedicated to community service and celebrating the spirit of life. Current college students who exhibit leadership, community involvement, exemplary character and high academic standards in their applications are eligible to apply.
Dr. P. David Finks Memorial Scholarship Fund
Available to Master of Arts students in the Clinical Mental Health Counseling program. The fund is named for and was made possible through a generous bequest by Dr. Finks, who graduated with a Doctor of Philosophy degree in 1975. While at Union, Dr. Finks studied urban sociology and adult higher education and administration and graciously applied his studies to the world around him. Emerge Scholarship – Georgia
Each year, Jeannette Rankin Women’s Scholarship Fund awards Emerge scholarships to low-income women, ages 25 and older, who are Georgia residents pursuing an undergraduate education or a trade skills certification at an accredited college or university in the U.S. Scholarships are renewable for up to five years and distributed directly to the recipient.
Employees of Institutions of Higher Education Scholarship
Faculty and staff at any institution of higher education who enroll in a Union graduate degree program (Master’s, Ed.D. or Ph.D.) will receive a $100 scholarship per credit hour up to 30 credits ($3,000 total scholarship value). This scholarship is available to all full and part-time employees. The scholarship can be used for only one degree program at Union. Proof of employment at a higher education institution will be required.
Eugene P. Ruehlmann Public Service Fellowship
The purpose of the fellowship is to support students during the research and writing phase of their dissertations. Eligible students must have an approved dissertation that promotes the spirit of patience and cooperation in community building exemplified by Eugene Ruehlmann’s lifetime of public service. It is a two-year award for advanced students in Union Institute & University’s Ph.D. program.
Faculty of Community College Council of Jamaica
Faculty who teach for a community college in Jamaica who enroll in the Union Ph.D. program will receive a $2,500 scholarship per semester for up to 8 semesters provided they are full-time students each semester.
Fontaine Maury Belford Scholarship Fund
The recipient must demonstrate innovative and/or groundbreaking work in his or her chosen field of study; application of the interdisciplinary principles; an appreciation of high academic quality; and an understanding of how his or her academic work will help the student take better charge of his or her life.

- Student meeting the requirements will receive $3,000 in total to be awarded $750.00 per semester for the student’s four-semester

Honorably Discharged U.S. Military Veterans Scholarship
Union’s Honorably Discharged U.S. Military Veterans Scholarship may be used in conjunction with employer tuition reimbursement or state and federal grants, the combination of which is not to exceed the total cost of tuition, books, and fees to the Veteran.

- $3,000.00 total scholarship towards an undergraduate or graduate degree (awarded $750.00 per semester for the student’s first 4 semesters at Union).

HotelPlanner.com Graduate Technology Scholarship For Military Veterans
The HotelPlanner Scholarship Program was designed to provide financial assistance to veterans of the United States military, along with the spouse/partner and children of U.S. military veterans, who are pursuing an undergraduate or graduate degree related to technology.
IBCLC-Graduate Scholarship
Get $1,000 towards a master’s degree. Active IBCLC certificate required. Must have full-time registration.
Indiana – Ivy Tech Community College
Ivy Tech Community College graduates who transfer into Union Institute & University undergraduate program will receive a scholarship of $100 discount per credit hour for the first 30 credit hours of registration up to $3,000. Members of Phi Theta Kappa will receive an additional first semester $500 scholarship. This scholarship is not available to students who enroll in the following degree programs: Criminal Justice Management, Emergency Services Management, Early Childhood Education & Adolescent Development, or Social Work.
Jeannette Rankin Foundation Scholarship

The John M. Haynes Scholarship Fund
For doctoral students whose academic focus is closely related to the study of conflict resolution.
The M.K. and Kamala Mitra Scholarship Fund
The recipient must demonstrate academic excellence and a measurable impact on a given community or society for this scholarship award.
M.K. and Kamala Mitra Scholarship Fund – for Undergraduates
The M.K. and Kamala Mitra Scholarship Fund is for Bachelor of Science students. This includes all of the bachelor’s programs offered by Union except for Psychology (Bachelor of Arts).
New Cohort Scholarship – Ph.D.
New students admitted to the Ph.D. program can receive a $1000 Cohort Scholarship.
The P.E.O. Program for Continuing Education
The P.E.O. Program for Continuing Education is a need-based grant program providing one-time financial assistance to women whose education has been interrupted and who find it necessary to return to school to complete a degree or certification that improves their marketable skills for employment to support them.
Phi Theta Kappa Scholarship
Phi Theta Kappa members who transfer to Union Institute & University and enroll in Business Management, Maternal Child Health, or Psychology will receive a first-semester scholarship of $500. This scholarship honors the achievements of Phi Theta Kappa members in the development of leadership, scholarship, fellowship, and community service.
Return 2 College Scholarship (R2C)
Applicants must be U.S. citizens or legal residents who are starting a program of higher education (college or graduate school) within the next 12 months or are currently full- or part-time students. Applicants must be age 17 years or older. There is no maximum age limit.
Ril Beatty III Scholarship
Established to assist doctoral students who are veterans and pursuing their doctoral degrees in Public Policy & Social Change. The scholarship was facilitated by the vice-chair of our Board of Trustees. Ril was a proud veteran who passed away after just a year into his Ph.D. program with Union. He was also the husband of Dr. Rosalyn Brown Beatty, a beloved member of the Union family and chair of Union’s Master of Arts in Clinical Mental Health Counseling program.
The Robert T. Conley Scholarship Fund
The recipient must be pursuing a Doctor of Education in educational leadership, having demonstrated exceptional leadership capabilities in the field of higher education leadership, either in a college/university setting or local, regional, national, or international higher education area.
Roger H. Sublett Fellowship for Emerging Leaders
This fellowship will provide support to new or current students enrolled in the Union Institute & University’s graduate programs, with a preference for students in the Ph.D. in Interdisciplinary Studies and the Ethical and Creative Leadership major, aspiring to leadership and follow Dr. Sublett’s example of servant leadership.
Society of Women Engineers Scholarship
The SWE Scholarship Program provides financial assistance to those who identify as a female/woman and are studying community college, baccalaureate, or graduate programs in preparation for careers in engineering, engineering technology and computer science.
SuperCollege Scholarship
The SuperCollege Scholarship is our way to give back to help you make college affordable. It’s open to all students – high school, college, grad or adult – who are currently in college, or plan to start. You can use the scholarship to pay for tuition, books, computers, room and board or any education-related expense. To apply, complete the online application form.
T.E.A.C.H. Early Childhood Scholarship
This is an excellent opportunity for residents of Florida to continue their education and positively impact one’s professional development, but also the impact one has on children and families.
The Union Graduate Scholarship
If you’re currently enrolled in a graduate program at Union Institute & University, you may be eligible for a graduate scholarship. The award process is highly selective and based on academic merit. To apply email uiu.scholarships@myunion.edu
Virginia Ruehlmann Women in Union Fellowship
This annual fellowship is open to full-time female students in good standing who are enrolled in any Union doctoral or master’s program. The scholarship committee will announce the annual application availability, submission deadline, and eligibility criteria. This committee also determines the awards. Initial funding is provided by the Helen Steiner Rice Foundation.
Women In Union Scholarship
The Women in Union scholarship program supports women earning a college degree. Recipients are women in need, with children, residing in the Greater Cincinnati Area who are urgently in need of financial assistance to continue and complete their education.
