Public Policy & Social Change

Dr. Karen Baird is part of the Public Policy and Social Change Concentration in the Ph.D. Program in Interdisciplinary Studies. She teaches some of the core courses of the program, and courses in Health Policy and Gender and Sexuality. She is on the Community Board of Project ICI, Columbia University and University of Michigan Schools of Social Work, a research team focusing on various aspects of HIV/AIDS services. From 2008-2014, she served on the Executive Committee of the HIV Planning Group, New York City, Department of Health and Mental Hygiene.

Dr. Baird holds a Ph.D. in Political Science from the University of Houston. Her research interests include women’s health policy, reproductive justice, and HIV/AIDS.

Dr. Baird’s published works include articles in International Journal of Environmental Research and Public Health, World Medical and Health Policy, Journal of Health Policy, Politics, and Law, and Perspectives on Politics. Her books include Beyond Reproduction: Women’s Health, Activism, and Public Policy and Gender Justice and the Health Care System.
