FINISHING YOUR Ed.D.
A number of factors may have inhibited your program completion - quite apart from intellectual potential. There are only a few programs in the country designed to streamline the completion of the Ed.D. program for those who have made it to the dissertation stage.
Our 100% online Ed.D.-ABD program is designed to fit your lifestyle, no matter where you live and work. There are three terms per year - Spring (January), Summer (May), and Fall (August). A virtual residency is held at the start of each term.
- 12-24 credits to finish your doctorate
- January, May, & September start dates
- Complete your degree in as little as 12-16 months
- Online residency at the start of each term
The successful Ed.D.-ABD student will take two advanced courses in their area of concentration - the dissertation literature review and the dissertation proposal. Both are offered in sequential semesters after which students undertake the dissertation, thus enabling completion in as little as 12-16 months.
EDUCATION THAT FITS YOUR BUSY LIFE
Students on the Ed.D.- ABD track may take up to 24 credits, depending on previous coursework, present professional needs, and where they were in the dissertation process. 15 credits are devoted to developing a proposal, dissertation research, and dissertation writing. The remaining credits, if appropriate, will be courses in research methods, social justice in education, and/or current trends in professional practice. ABD students will apply to the Ed.D. major that most closely fits their previous coursework.

- Personal statement/essay (two pages).
- Official transcripts (completion date for your master’s degree).
- One Letter of Recommendation (someone who can speak to your professional and academic work).

Ed.D. - ABD applicants must also submit:
- Formal course descriptions of all prior doctoral degree coursework, and any other graduate coursework related to the applicant’s proposed major.
- Statement from a prior doctoral university registrar or department noting the applicant has completed all requirements for the doctoral degree, except for the dissertation.

Admissions Review Process
Applications are reviewed by an Admissions Committee. The committee will review the transcripts and course descriptions in light of the proposed major, in addition to the dissertation proposal (if included in the application). The admission letter will stipulate which Union courses must be completed. Any courses beyond the required ones outlined in the letter will be determined in consultation between the student and the program (up to a max of 24 credits). The Ed.D. program Dean has the final approval of admissions and programs of study.
PROGRAM COMPLETION
Students admitted to the Ed.D. - ABD program will take up to 24 credits in the program. Ed.D. - ABD students will take 15 credits in the following courses: RSCH 786 Focused Research Design Project (3 cr), EDU 891 Literature Review (3 cr), RSCH 880 Dissertation Research (3 cr), and RSCH 902 (Dissertation) (6 cr). These four courses are taken in sequential terms, enabling completion within 1.5 years.
