MLK Day Message 2023

“Life’s most persistent and urgent question is, ‘What are you doing for others?’” – Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

In remembrance of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.
Monday, January 16, 2023

Dr. King asks, ‘What are you doing for others?’ Union Institute & University strives to work toward that answer every day.

That is why social justice is embedded in Union’s curriculum. We recognize that with knowledge comes the responsibility to serve in advancing a culturally pluralistic, equitable, and interdependent world.

The Institute for Social Justice was launched in 2019 to apply theory to practice through scholar-practitioners, philanthropists, policymakers, community leaders and others, who are committed to promoting social justice and equity in the United States and globally through research, education, and policy.

Last year, we expanded our global educational outreach with an agreement with the University of Professional Studies, Accra to establish cohorts of Ph.D. students in Ghana. The Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Ph.D. Studies Specialization continues to advance Dr. King’s ideals and practices to change the world for the better.

As each of us commemorates the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., we can be proud that our students, alumni, faculty, staff, and Board of Trustees are working every day to continue our collective efforts to promote equality, peace, and justice.

Thank you, Team Union, for working diligently to honor Dr. King, his work, his legacy, and to work toward an answer to the question, what are you doing for others?

With deep appreciation,

Karen Schuster Webb, Ph.D.
President
