Union Institute & University mourns with many the passing of notable alumnna Maravene Loeschke (Ph.D. 1975). Dr. Loeschke, president emerita of Towson University, died June 25, 2015 of complications from cancer at Gilchrist Hospice Care in Towson, Maryland. She was 68.
“It is with great sadness that we learned of Dr. Loeschke’s passing,” said Dr. Roger H. Sublett, president of Union Institute & University. “She was a dedicated visionary who put students first. We grieve with her colleagues and students for the loss of this innovative and beloved leader, and are so proud to call her our alumna. We had included her in our 50th anniversary presentation by alumni who had served as presidents of colleges and universities, but unfortunately, she was not able to join us last year.”
Dr. Loeschke completed her Ph.D. at Union Institute & University in 1975. She began her career at Towson University in 1969, and also served as president of Mansfield University in Pennsylvania. She returned to Towson as its president in 2012. A consummate professional and stellar colleague, she also dedicated her life and passions to the performing arts.
