The Veterans in Union program was launched in 2015 with the goal to recognize and honor the sacrifices made by our veterans in service to our country, and commit to their success by establishing both a site-based and a virtual veteran’s center.
Since the launch, one veteran has graduated and 15 are enrolled in various degree programs.
Other Veterans in Union partnerships include the Ohio National Guard, area congressional offices, the Ohio State Military One Source/Inter-Service Family Assistance program, the Brain Health Center, and more. Union is listed in the top 25 percent ranking of Military Friendly Schools; listing on the U.S. Department of Education’ Eight Keys to Veterans’ Success site; and part of a very critical two-year independently funded agreement with the Cincinnati Veterans Affairs office for on-site VITAL counseling services.
The Veterans Economic Communities Initiative (VECI) is part of Secretary of Veterans Affairs Robert A. McDonald’s department-wide push to extend Veterans Affairs’ reach of services. Launched in May 2015, VECI is part of Secretary of Veterans Affairs Robert A. McDonald’s department-wide push to extend Veterans Affairs’ reach of services.
Rosye Cloud, VA’s Senior Advisor for Veteran Employment said the initiative will make it easier for veterans to take advantage of their benefits. “Too often veterans are unaware of the VA benefits they have earned. VECI is a coherent strategy to reach our veterans and let them know about employment and education benefits.”
“The best way to get things done for veterans is to involve partners from both the public and private sectors – national to local,” McDonald wrote. “If history has shown us anything, it’s that all you have to do is give veterans an opportunity and they will go beyond anything you could ever envision.”
