Spotlight on Alumna Dr. Divonna Stebick

Divonna StebickCongratulations to Union alumna Divonna Stebick (Ph.D. 2009) who earned a tenured position at Gettysburg College for the upcoming academic year. Dr. Stebick holds a Ph.D. with a concentration in Public Policy and Social Issues from Union Institute & University. Her research interests include literacy, special education, and education policy.

Dr. Divonna Stebick started in the education department of Gettysburg College as a lecturer in 2003, and more recently moved into a tenure-track position. Before joining Gettysburg she served as a teacher in Carroll County, Maryland and Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.

To keep up her skills and stay fresh on current teaching practices, Stebick spends time in the field working with teachers. She and her husband also co-founded the Enlightened Learning Center in Hanover, Pennsylvania. She volunteers there regularly, enabling her to share even more real-world teaching experiences with her students.

In 2007 she co-authored the book Comprehension Strategies for Your K-6 Literacy Classroom: Thinking Before, During, and After Reading. In 2014 she traveled to northern India as part of a faculty seminar on food insecurity and global health – an experience that inspired her to revamp one of her classes with a global focus.
